Hello and welcome to the offical website of St. John's Episcopal Church of Ketchikan, Alaska.

About Sunday School

SUNDAY SCHOOL DURING OUR 2ND SERVICE

Spencer Landis is now offering a short Sunday School program for our young children that come to our 2nd service.  It begins at 10:45 AM when our service starts and is over at the PEACE/OFFERTORY.  The children at that time return up stairs to join their parents or grandparents for the remainder of the service.  Spencer has a great program to offer and we are so glad she wants to share this with our young ones.

 St. John’s Sunday School

St. John’s offers two Sunday School age groups for our young people; preschool through third grade, and fourth through high school students.  Both groups meet between services on Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.   The younger group is exploring the Parables of Jesus, and the older students use Living the Good News Episcopal program which uses the daily readings as the basis of the weekly lesson.http://www.livingthegoodnews.com/index.php

This year we have several of our members taking turns with leading the older class. The younger children have Jennifer Simpson-Hiatt and Kim Simpson McCord leading the class.

We also have a Christmas play and sometimes a summer play.  This year we also had a “Monster Mash” for Halloween and are planning a “lock-in”.  Sunday School runs for the school year, and we kick off with “Sundae Sunday” and end at the end of the school year with a “Sunday School Picnic”.  Children are recognized during church with awards for their participation during the year.

Please call Father Yaw if you have any questions.  We also have color books and crayons available for children to use during the service.  Just ask an usher for help.
